    Affordable housing laid the foundation of Related Companies and we continue to place a high priority on developing, acquiring and preserving housing for this sector. In fact, over 60% of our 50,000+ residential apartment homes under our management are part of one or more affordable housing programs, and an additional 20% of these homes provide workforce housing.

    In the area of acquisitions and refinancing, we pursue properties that meet one of the following criteria: Section 8 properties with project-based contracts; Section 236 properties in need of rehabilitation; Section 42 LIHTC properties with expiring low-income restrictions; Section 515 FmHA properties with loans that can be prepaid; or other assisted properties, including HODAG, HOME, federal or state-financed public housing.

    Many of the buildings we encounter are in need of substantial upgrading and preservation in order to continue to properly fulfill the needs of their tenants. Given our 42 years of experience in debt and equity financing – as well as our extensive management of government-assisted properties – we are well positioned to buy out existing owners who lack the resources and experience to recapitalize and, therefore, wish to exit the affordable housing arena. In addition, with our extensive development experience, we bring the knowhow to expertly rehabilitate the units, thus assuring the continued viability of these projects for years to come.


    Your role with the company:

    Manhattan Plaza, one of Related's affordable housing communities, is seeking a File Clerk to join their team. This individual needs to have an eye for detail and the ability to operate on a deadline driven schedule. The ideal candidate would possess strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.

    Some of your daily repsonsibilities include:

    • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all resident files, file jackets, identification numbering and general order of the file room.
    • Greet and assist residents with the signing of his/her HUD form, Initial Notice, Repayment Agreement and Schedule, and Credit Acknowledgment.
    • Review HUD form, Initial Notice, Repayment Agreement, Repayment Schedule and Credit Acknowledgement with resident when he/she comes to sign. Direct residents with specific questions to the recertification specialist who did the calculation
    • Ensure that all forms needed for the completion of the recertification process i.e. the HUD forms, initial notice, repayment agreement and schedule, or credit acknowledgement are signed and dated by management and the resident (including household members 18 and older).
    • Organize forms i.e. HUD form, initial notice, repayment agreement, repayment schedule, credit acknowledgement and rent notification letter so that they can be filed in the resident’s folder. 
    • File all recertification documents and miscellaneous documents in resident files.
    • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Responsible for the transport of move out files to the basement storeroom and notification to the certified shedding company for pickup of documents.
    • In preparation for annual recertifications, pull all annual recertification bin folders.
    • Make copies of all recertification forms for Ellington Room, reception area and recertification staff.
    • Collect all outgoing mail in the Operations Office.
    • Responsible for the monthly mailing of rent bills and repayment bills.
    • Keep inventory of office supplies in storage room.
    • Ensure that office supplies are replenished in the Operations Office as needed.

    Additional responsibilities may include:

    • Cover Reception area when requested.
    • Assist File Coordinator as needed with the generating and signing of HUD 50059s, lease addendums and amendments; mailing out of recertification rent letters and reminder postcards.
    • Provide coverage to package room staff as needed.
    • Liaison between Operations Office and Xerox for all copy machines.
    • Assist recertification manager and other staff as needed.

    • Efficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Highly motivated service-oriented self starter and adaptable to change. 


    • Must be able to stand for an 8 hour shift
    • Must be available to work overtime when required.
    • Must be comfortable working with, and around, large groups of people.
    • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs

    Pay rate: $15/hr DOE
