    Responsibilities

    The Commercial Accounting group is responsible for accounting for all aspects of operations associated with Related’s Commercial Portfolio.  The group is tasked with internal and external management reporting, debt and statutory compliance. 

     

    The Senior Accountant will be primarily responsible for the general ledger and cash flow analysis, financial reporting, daily and period end accounting activities, performing cash management, assisting with preparing annual year-end projections, and analyzing monthly and year-to-date budget variances for a variety of operating and REIT platforms within the ownership structure of 10 Hudson Yards.

     

    This role has a unique component where they will be managing co-generation plants and working closely with our energy teams.  They will be assisting with the management of a TRS (Taxable REIT subsidiary), dealing heavily with internal and external clients on various levels of reporting. 

     

    This position also involves collaboration with the finance team and senior leaders to produce a variety of high quality, monthly and quarterly reports that are used for companywide and external owner reporting, analysis and planning. The Senior Accountant will also interface with independent auditors, internal associates and external parties. The ideal candidate is a highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated person who thrives in a dynamic work environment and demonstrates a flexible and adaptable work style that responds quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines. The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller and be based in our New York office.

     

    • Perform daily accounting activities, cash management and act as liaison between other departments to maintain the proper flow of information and reporting
    • Work with Property operations teams to record activity in conjunction with approved budgets
    • Prepare balance sheet and income statement analysis for management and partners under GAAP, tax and cash basis per the Owner’s request
    • Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly and year end work paper packages for owners, lenders and REIT compliance
    • Review CAM/RET reconciliations
    • Review and analyze the general ledger, financial statements and prepare appropriate accrual and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP
    • Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements
    • Prepare and/or review monthly bank reconciliations
    • Assist with preparation of yearly budgets and quarterly forecasting
    • Create reporting templates, formulate analysis using applications such as Excel or JD Edwards accounting software and participate in various business process/technology integration initiatives
    • Assist with special projects as assigned by management

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
    • 4 to 6 years of real estate accounting experience, CPA preferred
    • Public accounting experience preferred
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP/accounting theory
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently with attention to details
    • Excellent written and communication skills
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills
    • Mature professional with sound judgement and interpersonal skills
    • Proficiency with standard suite of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
    • Knowledge of JD Edwards and HFM a plus
