    Responsibilities

    The Controller will oversee all internal and external reporting, accounting and cash management activities.  This role has a team of property accountants to drive all property reporting and will work closely with the Property Management team on the operating results of the properties and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.  This position involves close collaboration with the development accounting team on properties that transition between operations and development.  The ideal candidate is highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated person who thrives in a dynamic work environment and demonstrates flexible and adaptable work style that responds quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.  The Controller will report to the SVP, Finance and Accounting and be based in our Boston office.

     

    • Direct activities of 4+ person property accounting team
    • Provide direction and guidance to the Property Accounting team as they perform their duties to ensure timely, accurate and consistent delivery
    • Review and oversee the timely delivery of all monthly and annual accounting activities, billing, cash management and accounts payable
    • Partner with onsite Property Management teams in all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tenant collections and CAM reconciliations
    • Review and oversee lender reporting
    • Authorize property disbursements, including electronic banking transmittals (ACH’s, wires, electronic book transfer, stop payments and opening and closing of bank accounts) for managed properties utilizing Treasury Management systems
    • Mentoring the accounting team for future advancement, and providing day to day leadership, guidance, motivation and support
    • Coordinate activities with Development Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Tax and FP&A departments
    • Lead the implementation of system enhancements, including accounting system upgrades and automated A/P workflow system, and enhance automation of all accounting processes
    • Lead external audit and tax reporting  and ensure the timely distribution to lenders, partners and regulators
    • Streamline intercompany payment of all monthly management fees and salary reimbursements from managed properties
    • Lead special projects, as needed
    • Participate in acquisition due diligence efforts, as needed

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
    • Ideal candidate will have 4+ years of public accounting experience and 3+ years of industry accounting experience; real estate industry experience a plus, but not required
    • Excellent analytical skills
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
    • Clear communicator with ability to interact with senior leaders
    • Mature professional with sound judgment and interpersonal skills
    • Superior organizational skills, must be detail oriented and have the ability to multitask
    • Knowledge of JD Edwards and Yardi or other property management related software, a plus
