Responsibilities

Your role with the company:

The Director of Compliance is responsible, under the direction of the Senior Vice President, for identifying, providing and maintaining comprehensive resources, documents, information on legal obligations, policies, and procedures to assure company-wide compliance with all governing programs, including, but not limited to HUD affordable housing program regulations, Section 42 Tax-Credit affordable housing programs, Bond programs, building compliance programs, and all applicable Fair Housing and Human Rights statutes. The Director of Compliance hires, trains, maintains and supervises sufficient staff to meet the requirements of the department and is responsive to the President, Senior Vice President, Regional Vice Presidents and Regional Managers, Owners, Asset Managers, Project-based Contract Administrators, Agency contacts, and other executives and officers of Related.

 

What your typical day will look like:

  • Pursue and maintain a current, comprehensive knowledge of compliance programs to which Related and the sites under Related’s management must comply (HUD, Section 42, etc.).
  • Develop procedural guidelines for administering and maintaining compliance with the applicable programs.
  • Respond to inquires from Owners, Asset Managers, Operations, Regional Vice Presidents and Regional Managers regarding property specific compliance questions/concerns. 
  • Work with Owners, Asset Managers, Operations, Regional Vice Presidents and Regional Managers to design, assign, schedule, carry-out a comprehensive internal audit function with appropriate follow-up to monitor and assure company-wide compliance.
  • Stay abreast of changes/pending changes in regulatory programs and procedures and initiate training to facilitate appropriate changes company wide.
  • Hire, train, maintain and supervise sufficient staff with appropriate skill sets to carry out the responsibilities of the compliance department.
  • Assure timely, effective distribution of comprehensive, accurate compliance reporting to managers, executives and others with a need to know.
  • Prepare, with assistance from compliance staff, managers and Regional Managers, for MOR and other relevant agency audits.  Draft responses to audit findings and provide follow-up to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Track AFHMP/Tenant Selection Plans Due dates and coordinate submission to HUD, State Agencies, etc.
  • Supervise REAC Tracking/Submit EH&S Certifications

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, including but not limited to, HUD 4350.3, EIV, Reasonable Accommodation Requests, LIHTC income limits and rent calculations, Fair Housing, Real Estate Licensing
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, computer and organizational skills
  • “Player-Coach” mentality; Travel to sites is required.
  • Strong data management skills with significant attention to detail
  • Ability to read, comprehend and abstract regulatory agreements, etc.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to interface effectively and professionally with executives, owners, asset managers, agency representatives, department staff.
  • Ability to prioritize, track and manage multiple tasks.
